Spawning turbot

At the start of June we found the first females with thick bellies. This is a good indication that the fish are almost ready for spawning. During June the behaviour of the fish changed. Normally turbot is a very quiet and easy fish. However in spawning season they become very active. The fish is swimming around the tank; males and females close to each other.

Unfortunately turbot doesn't release eggs and sperm in the water in captivity. So we need to check the fish every 2 - 3 days on eggs and sperm production. This is labour intensive, however also a nice job to do.

At the end of June we obtained first eggs and sperm. Now we are learning and practicing to get some fertilized eggs and produce larvae.
